How to Establish a
Better Stand
of Alfalfa and Clover
It is
commonly understood that leguminous forage crops such as alfalfa and
clover establish associations with nitrogen fixing bacteria (rhyzobium)
and therefore typically do not require added nitrogen. What is often
not understood or overlooked is that these nitrogen fixing bacteria do
not establish themselves until several weeks after emergence, even if
an innoculant was used at planting. At this critical stage, the time
between emergence and the establishment of colonies of nitrogen fixing
bacteria, your young stand of alfalfa or clover needs nitrogen just
like any other crop.
Fast emergence and
rapid stand establishment
Vitazyme
applied at planting, either pre plant or post emergence, will produce
more aggressive seedlings that will fill their space faster to produce
a dense, weed free stand. Vitazyme will make a pre plant nitrogen more
efficiently used and will help the rhyzobium bacteria colonize more
quickly and speed the nitrogen fixing process. Vitazyme can be applied
to the seeds in a 5% solution along with the innoculant if a pre plant
or post emergent spray is not possible.
Better second and
third cuttings
If Vitazyme
is sprayed after each cutting, faster regrowth will result, with
increased tonnage. Vitazyme will keep the bacteria colonies active and
drive the plant roots deep to gather more nutrients and fortify the
plant against drought. And don't forget about your crop after the last
cutting: spray Vitazyme before the first frost to fortify the crop for
winter and to insure a top quality first cutting next year.
More yield, better
quality
Vitazyme will
increase tonnage of forage crops, and quality parameters, such as
protein content, relative feeding value, net energy, and phosphorus
will go up too. See our Field Trials section for details.
The rate for
all applications is 13oz/acre ( 1 liter/hectare). Remember, you can
mix Vitazyme with all your other chemicals and fertilizers to
eliminate application costs.
